How to Turn Off Background Apps on an iPhone

One of the best ways to conserve battery life and data is to turn off background apps. However, many people aren’t aware that this can be done easily.

It’s simple to do, and can save you money on your cellular data bill too! All you need to do is toggle off the switch for the app that you don’t want to use in the background.

Go to Settings

It’s common knowledge that you can save your battery and data usage by turning off background apps on an iPhone. But this simple task isn’t all that easy – and many people don’t realize there are other ways to boost your phone’s performance and extend its life.

If you’re not sure where to start, it may be a good idea to look in your Settings app. This is the app that lets you adjust all your preferences for your iPhone, from the ringtone and text tone to voicemail and mail, calendar alerts, lock sounds and silence mode.

You can access the Settings app through several different ways. One is by swiping left on your Home Screen until you reach the gray gear icon, which you’ll see below.

Another way to find the Settings app is by using Spotlight Search. You can also swipe right on your Home Screen or Lock Screen to open Today View, which has a search field at the top.

Once you’ve found the Settings app, simply tap it to access all your settings. You can also tap the arrow at the top of the screen to expand the menu and choose Settings from there.

In addition to saving your battery and data, you can also use these settings to turn off other functions that aren’t necessary for your phone’s functionality. For example, you can disable autoplay in YouTube to avoid wasting your data and battery while watching videos.

Finally, you can also switch off Background Refresh in your Settings to limit the amount of data your apps use while they’re not actively being used. This is a great option for people who want to save their data and stay on top of their data usage.

The last step is to go back to Settings and tap General. This will take you to the Background App Refresh submenu, where you can toggle it off on individual apps as needed. You can also turn it off for all apps or limit its usage to Wi-Fi if you’re on the go.

Tap General

It’s common for people to close unused apps in the background whenever possible to save battery life and avoid taking up too much system resources. While it can be helpful to do this when a particular app freezes or doesn’t respond properly, Apple recommends not closing them entirely, as it can be detrimental to your device’s overall performance and integrity of data.

However, it’s easy to override this default behavior by disabling the ability for apps to refresh their content in the background on your iPhone or iPad. This is done via a feature called Background App Refresh, and it can help conserve both battery life and cellular data on your iPhone or iPad.

To disable Background App Refresh, open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad and tap General. You’ll see a list of all the apps that have permission to refresh in the background, and you can turn it off for any or all of them by tapping the switch next to each one.

You can also select whether you want Background App Refresh to only happen when your phone is connected to Wi-Fi or both Wi-Fi and cellular data, which can be helpful for preserving your cellular data plan as well.

There are two options for turning Background App Refresh off: Off and Wi-Fi Only, and you can change which apps you want to refresh in the background by going through each one of them individually. This might be a bit tedious, but it could save you from a costly bill from your carrier if you only have a limited amount of cellular data to use each month.

Tap Background App Refresh

The background apps on an iPhone are a big battery drain. They’re constantly downloading updates and new content. The good news is that you can turn off this feature to conserve battery life and data.

You can also find out which apps are using up your mobile data by looking at their usage values in the Settings app. This will show you which apps are hogging up the most of your mobile data and help you avoid overpaying for data services.

To do this, open the Settings app on your iPhone and scroll down to General. From there, tap Background App Refresh.

This will give you a list of all the apps on your device and lets you choose which ones can refresh their data in the background. You can select to enable the option for all of them or toggle it on individually.

Once you’ve chosen which apps can refresh their data in the background, tap Done. This will allow them to update their data in the background without using up your data.

Some apps, especially social media apps, can use up a lot of mobile data in the background. This can lead to extra charges on your phone bill if you’re on a limited data plan.

One way to avoid this is by disabling Background App Refresh on all apps and letting them wait until they’re opened before updating their data. This can save a lot of data and battery life.

The only drawback to disabling Background App Refresh is that some apps may not be able to update their data automatically. In these cases, you might need to open them up manually.

You can also try resetting your iPhone and see if that helps. Resetting your phone can remove all your app preferences and reset the way your device works, including removing the background apps on an iPhone.

Tap Off

Having a lot of apps running in the background isn’t good for your phone’s battery or data, but it’s possible to stop this from happening. In fact, there’s an app switcher on the iPhone that lets you swipe up to close unused apps.

That’s a handy feature, but it can also be frustrating because you often need to use multiple fingers to close all of the opened apps at once. So, when you’re ready to clean out the app switcher and get rid of any unused apps that are sapping your battery or system resources, it’s a good idea to turn off the “Background App Refresh” setting.

The reason is that, with this feature enabled, apps can refresh their content in the background all the time – and that uses a lot of data and drains your battery. That’s why many people recommend turning this feature off, or at least limiting it to Wi-Fi.

You can do this by going to Settings, then General, and then Background App Refresh. This will give you a list of all the apps that are allowed to refresh in the background, and you can toggle it off for individual ones.

This feature is especially useful if you’re away from your home Wi-Fi network and would like to limit the amount of data that apps use in the background. In addition to allowing you to set the limit on each individual app, you can also choose whether or not you want Background App Refresh to use your cellular data, or just use Wi-Fi for refreshes.

But you can also opt to disable the feature completely. That’s by tapping the Off button at the top of the screen, or choosing one of the three options below: On, Wi-Fi only, and Wi-Fi & Cellular Data.

While this will prevent your apps from refreshing in the background, they will still continue to run if you’re connected to your Wi-Fi network or have your iPhone in low-power mode. If you’re in the latter, however, the feature will automatically pause until your iPhone is restarted, so it’s best to turn this off when you’re going to be away from an outlet.
