What are Dental Implants?

Dentist Robina implants are one of the most effective ways to replace missing teeth. These high-tech replacements are anchored to your jawbone through a process called osseointegration. They are designed to look and feel natural. They can replace a single tooth or multiple teeth, and even an entire set of upper or lower teeth.

They can provide improved speech, comfort, and chewing ability. Unlike removable dentures, which can cause speech problems, slipping and irritation, implants are permanent, stable, and comfortable. They also provide better oral hygiene, since they are more like your own teeth than traditional bridges and dentures are.

Improved self-esteem and confidence!

Dental implants offer an affordable, long-term solution for replacing missing teeth. They have a high success rate and are considered a safe, conservative treatment by both physicians and dentists.

Removable dentures are uncomfortable and difficult to keep clean, especially when they are full of food particles. They can also promote bone loss by rubbing against your jawbone.

The best candidates for dental implants are adults with healthy gums and adequate bone in the jaw. They also need to be free of periodontal disease and have no other health conditions that might affect their dental implant experience.

If your jawbone is not dense enough to support a dental implant, we may recommend a bone graft before surgery. This is a simple procedure that involves taking tissue from another part of the body to add height and density to your jawbone.

Depending on your needs, the type of implant that is best for you will be determined by your dentist and periodontist. During this appointment, they will go over the different types of dental implants and help you decide which is right for you.

Endosteal – This is the most common type of dental implant. It is anchored to the jawbone by placing a metal post in the bone, and then attaching a porcelain crown on top of it.

Subperiosteal – This is the type of implant we usually use when patients do not have sufficient bone in their jaw to support an endosteal dental implant. It is anchored to the bone by placing a titanium rod on top of the jawbone, and then attaching a porcelain crown.

Your periodontist is a specialist trained in the underlying soft and hard tissues of the mouth, making them the ideal person to place a dental implant. They will take X-rays to assess how much bone you have and then work with you on a treatment plan that includes gum disease treatment, tooth removal, and bone grafting as needed.

The dental implant surgery itself is a very straightforward, painless procedure. Typically, you will have a small incision made in your gums to put in the implant, and then you will be fitted with a temporary abutment while the abutment heals and the implant is placed into your bone. You will then return to the office in a few months for the permanent abutment to be attached to the dental implant post.
